AlgoFET has raised ₹15 crore in a pre-Series A funding round led by Piper Serica to expand autonomous drone ground infrastructure. The Bengaluru deep-tech startup plans to use the capital for product development, in-house manufacturing, intellectual property and wider deployments.

AlgoFET Funding Signals A Shift In Drone Investment

AlgoFET funding is the latest example of investors backing the infrastructure layer behind India’s expanding drone ecosystem.

The Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup announced on August 19 that it had raised ₹15 crore in a pre-Series A round led by Piper Serica. The valuation, equity dilution and participation of any additional investors were not disclosed.

AlgoFET develops autonomous ground infrastructure designed to support drone operations. Its technology focuses on areas such as docking, charging and fleet monitoring, addressing a problem that becomes more important as drone fleets grow.

The company said the new capital will be used to accelerate its next-generation infrastructure products, expand in-house manufacturing, strengthen proprietary intellectual property and scale deployments across defence, enterprise and international markets.

The funding comes at a time when Indian companies are moving beyond individual drone hardware and exploring the systems required to operate unmanned aircraft at scale.

Why Drone Ground Infrastructure Matters

A drone is only useful commercially if it can operate repeatedly and reliably.

For many applications, flying the aircraft is just one part of the operation. Batteries need to be charged or replaced, the aircraft needs to return to a designated location and operators need to monitor multiple missions.

These requirements become more complicated when companies operate large fleets.

AlgoFET is targeting this operational layer through autonomous ground infrastructure. Its systems are intended to reduce the amount of manual intervention involved in docking, charging and monitoring drones.

This is relevant across several sectors. Defence organisations can require persistent surveillance, while enterprises may use drones for inspection, security and other specialised operations.

Agriculture and logistics also present potential use cases, although the commercial requirements in each sector are different.

The investment thesis is therefore broader than selling another drone model. It is about building infrastructure that can support different drone fleets and use cases.

AlgoFET’s Deployment Scale

According to company-reported figures cited by ET Telecom, AlgoFET has already deployed more than 2,000 units and has an order pipeline exceeding 4,000 units. The company also reported an order book of ₹100 crore.

These figures are company claims and should be viewed in that context.

If the deployments continue to grow, the infrastructure challenge becomes increasingly significant. A business operating thousands of drones cannot depend entirely on people manually handling every charging or recovery process.

Automation can potentially reduce operational workload and improve consistency.

However, deployment numbers alone do not establish profitability. Investors will also need to assess the economics of each installation, recurring revenue opportunities, maintenance costs and how quickly customers adopt autonomous infrastructure.

That distinction matters in deep-tech businesses, where technical deployments can precede sustainable commercial returns by several years.

Piper Serica’s Bet On Indian Deep Tech

Piper Serica’s investment in AlgoFET also fits into a wider interest in Indian deep-tech companies.

Deep-tech startups typically require more capital and longer development cycles than conventional software businesses because they often build physical products, proprietary hardware or specialised intellectual property.

Piper Serica has also invested in other Indian deep-tech companies. In July, Bengaluru-based Yaanendriya raised ₹15 crore from the venture capital firm to develop indigenous sensor, navigation and control technologies for robotics, aerospace and other critical applications.

The two investments highlight different parts of the autonomy stack.

Yaanendriya is focused on sensing, navigation and control, while AlgoFET is building infrastructure around drone operations. Together, such companies illustrate how Indian investors are increasingly looking at specialised technology layers rather than only consumer-facing applications.

Defence Is A Major Market For Drone Technology

Defence remains one of the strongest drivers of India’s drone technology ecosystem.

The government has been increasing its focus on indigenous unmanned systems and counter-drone capabilities. Recent defence contracts also show the scale of demand.

India’s Defence Ministry recently signed a ₹1,577 crore contract with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Pune-based NIBE for loiter munition systems for the Indian Army.

Separately, the government signed a $203 million contract with General Atomics for the lease of two MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones for the Indian Navy.

These developments are not directly connected to AlgoFET’s funding round, but they provide important market context.

As the number and sophistication of unmanned systems increase, supporting infrastructure becomes more important. Defence users may require systems capable of operating in demanding environments with limited human intervention.

That creates opportunities for startups building components and infrastructure around autonomous systems.

Drone Investment Is Moving Beyond Aircraft

The Indian drone industry initially attracted significant attention around aircraft manufacturers and drone service providers.

The investment landscape is now broader.

Startups are working on navigation systems, airspace management, autonomous logistics, charging infrastructure, counter-drone systems and specialised applications.

Skye Air, for example, raised the first close of a $9 million Series B round in March 2026. The company said it planned to expand beyond Delhi-NCR into Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata while investing in autonomous logistics and airspace-management technology.

This indicates that investors are increasingly looking at the infrastructure required to make drone operations commercially viable.

The same pattern can be seen in other deep-tech categories. Instead of investing only in the end product, investors are also looking for companies that provide the underlying technology needed by multiple operators.

Agriculture And Logistics Could Expand Demand

Defence is not the only potential market for India’s drone companies.

Agriculture has emerged as an important commercial application because drones can be used for spraying, crop monitoring and other field operations.

Logistics is another area where companies are testing drone-based delivery models. Skye Air’s expansion plans illustrate the interest in combining drones with broader logistics infrastructure.

For these sectors, infrastructure could become critical as operations move from demonstrations to repeat commercial deployments.

A farmer or logistics company does not simply need a drone. It needs an operating system around that drone, including charging, maintenance, monitoring and compliance.

That creates opportunities for infrastructure providers such as AlgoFET.

At the same time, the economics have to work. Infrastructure can become expensive if each installation requires significant customisation or frequent human intervention.

What Investors Are Likely Looking For

AlgoFET’s funding round points to several factors that may influence future investment decisions in India’s drone sector.

First is commercial traction. Investors are likely to place greater value on companies that have paying customers and repeat deployments rather than only prototypes.

Second is proprietary technology. Deep-tech investors generally need to see defensible intellectual property or specialised capabilities that are difficult to replicate.

Third is manufacturing capability. Hardware startups need to demonstrate that they can move from small-batch production to reliable commercial manufacturing.

Finally, investors need to understand the size of the potential market.

A company supplying infrastructure to a small number of drone operators may struggle to scale. A platform that can support multiple drone manufacturers, sectors and geographies has a potentially larger opportunity.

The Challenge Of Scaling Drone Infrastructure

Building drone infrastructure is not without challenges.

India has a complex regulatory environment for unmanned aircraft, and commercial drone operations must comply with applicable aviation rules and permissions.

Infrastructure also has to work across different operating conditions. A system deployed at an industrial site may face very different requirements from one used in agriculture or defence.

Battery technology is another factor. Charging time, battery life and replacement cycles directly influence how frequently a drone can operate.

For infrastructure companies, interoperability could also become important. If every drone manufacturer uses proprietary systems, infrastructure providers may need to support multiple technical standards.

These challenges mean that funding alone will not determine success. Startups will need to demonstrate reliable technology, customer adoption and sustainable unit economics.

What AlgoFET’s ₹15 Crore Raise Means

AlgoFET’s ₹15 crore funding round is relatively modest compared with some large Indian technology deals, but its significance lies in the category it represents.

The investment suggests that venture capital is finding opportunities in the less visible infrastructure required to operate autonomous systems.

For India’s drone ecosystem, that could be important.

As drones move into defence, agriculture, logistics, surveillance and enterprise applications, companies will need more than aircraft. They will require charging systems, docking stations, navigation technology, monitoring platforms and airspace-management tools.

AlgoFET is targeting one part of that broader ecosystem.

Whether the company can turn its reported deployments and order pipeline into sustainable growth will depend on execution, manufacturing scale, customer demand and the economics of autonomous drone operations.

For investors, however, the larger opportunity is clear: India’s drone industry is increasingly becoming an infrastructure story, not just a hardware story.
